Not Living Up To Its Brand |
I'll start out saying that when it works, it works very well. I run it to my Harman Kardon Receiver with sound and video quality that meet my expectations.
Unfortunately I've been frustrated with weird pauses every other DVD or so. Usually just once during a movie. Of course it's not enough to make me go out to buy a different player, but enough that I won't buy a HK brand Blu-Ray player if one comes out. I'll say that these pauses don't require to me do anything, as the movie will resume after a couple of seconds; but, it's enough to be a little embarrassed when friends come over for a movie night.
In conclusion, if you've found a killer deal on one or already own one, it's not the worst thing to happen. But, I'd look elsewhere if you have other choices. |

Missing Remote |
The picture quality is good, and best of all, the DVD 38 plays somewhat scratched DVDs without lengthy pauses or freezes.
The bad news is that the box did not contain a remote control. Instead was a note saying that the remote was packed inside the AVR box. I bought only the DVD player, so this was not helpful. When I contacted Harmon Audio, they agreed to send me a remote for free. 23 days later, I'm still waiting. |

Outstanding Upscaling DVD Player! Great performance and value! |

I recently purchased the Harmon Kardon DVD 38 Player. After doing a lot of research on up-scalable DVD players I came to the conclusion that this model offered the best bang for the buck. The fact that it offers 6 channel surround sound composite ports was the deciding factor for me. I am extremely impressed with how it makes a standard DVD look crystal clear! The sound is equally as good! Keep in mind this DVD player max's out at 1080i. This was not a problem for me since my LCD is set to that same resolution level. If you want 1080p you may want to consider the HK DVD 48. In any case you will not be disappointed. I have been a long time fan of Harmon Kardon Products for many years. Their reputation for high performance and reliability still exists today. Buy this product with confidence! You won't regret it! |
