Customer Reviews for  'Harmony 610 Universal Remote'

Good all around
A good all around remote. It has a solid, ergonomic feel that was lacking in the older 500 series (square, flat) remotes. It does exactly what it was designed to do. The only real minus with this unit is the five device limit. A nice little remote for the bedroom, though.

BEST REMOTE EVER USED
I bought this remote to replace having to use 4 remotes to watch a Dvd. The Cable TV box's universal remote is nice but does not have all functions of each unit.
This remote took me 5 minutes to setup via computer and worked right away after programming. If this one is this good I cant imagine buying one that cost over $200. This one is just fine.

Mixed
I'm ambivalent about this remote.

I LOVE the process of entering model numbers and getting it programmed without looking up codes for 20 minutes and pressing buttons and guessing and finding out that it doesn't cover my devices. That part is great.

The method-based operation is strange because it doesn't seem to really cover my situation, which I hardly think is unique: TiVO + DVD + VCR. It seems, like many new remotes, to be designed more for people who have a high powered stereo attached to their TV mainly for watching live TV and DVD. So it can be awkward at common-for-me situations, but it does work for most things.

I think it tries to be too ambitious when it comes to powering things up or off.

Finally, the buttons are too small and the labels are WAY too small, and I find I constantly have to press GLOW to figure out where buttons are. There are other remotes (some by RCA are very good) which make better use of button position and shape to make functions more memorable. And would it kill remote makers to use bold typefaces? I mean, I know it won't look as pretty, but the point is to control the TV, not to be a sculpture on the coffee table.

Great, but not perfect
This is my first Logitech remote, and I wasn't sure about the whole thing so my review is from a new user perspective of this remote and the Logitech configuration software. This remote is great once configured the way you want it. I didn't need a color screen so the black and green screen is great since it lets the batteries last longer. I have not noticed the remote being too sensitive to motion and wearing down the battery quickly like some other reviews mention.

For people who have never used a Logitech remote before:

If you are good with computers setting up the remote is fairly easy. The software has the ability to customize the remote for each device individually and also for the "modes" such as "Watch TV" or "Watch a Movie". Because of this it took me a couple tries to get the remote set up exactly the way I wanted. After using it for a day or two you realize what exactly you want to do. As a software developer it was nice to be able to come up with a solution to a problem such as the button doesn't work the way I think it should by just reconfiguring the remote. I can see adding or replacing equipment as a seemless process and not requiring someone to learn a new remote or additional button sequences.

The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because even though I have all the buttons configured the way I want sometimes the buttons cause unexpected results. When I push the up and down direction buttons or the fast forward and rewind buttons several times in succession, my DVR thinks that I'm holding the button down. When I use the actual dvr remote it doesn't have this problem. The good thing is that the software does let me tweak the settings so that it pauses longer between commands but it is more of a trial and error process and I haven't spent more than 20 minutes trying to resolve this.

All problems aside, I don't think I'll ever go back to using other non customizable remotes. It's very nice, and foolproof to just hit "Watch TV" and the remote does the rest.

Really easy to use....
Are you kidding me? This thing is awesome. It's really easy to use and it fixes its own mistakes. It can control any device....even my satellite radio receiver.
