Customer Reviews for  'Logitech Harmony 620 Advanced Remote'

Dish Network almost stumped me. Almost
I bought this as a $40 refurb at CompUSA. I have been wanting a universal for years between my TV, Home Theater, DVD recorder, Sattellite recorder and music system.
Set up was logical and I followed all of the rules and entered all of my devices and downloaded everything to the remote but my Dish Network DVR just would not work. Everything else was fine. It was driving me crazy for half the day but then I googled the problem and lo and behold...Dish Network remotes aren't set to RF frequency for controlling your Tv and box. You have to go to the box and reset a few of the settings and change it to RF and voila! It all works. No more keeping all my remotes in a basket on my coffee table. One button turns it all on whether I want to watch TV, watch a DVD, listen to music, watch a VHS and then one button turns it all off. Heaven.
Definitely worth the price as a refurb, But they should put some info regarding the extra settings needed for Dish Network users. It almost caused me to return it.

Don't buy for home theater system
I have spent 2.5 hours on my own and 1.5 hours on the phone with tech support in the Philippines and it still doesn't work as it should. Tech support is awful. She could only read along with her computer screen and couldn't answer any questions. If my answer didn't match the options in front of her then she would just keep asking the same question over and over. It was extremely frustrating. I think she only knew enough English to follow along with what was in front of her. I asked to speak to someone else but she said no one else was available. I even hung up at one point and called back thinking I would get someone else but ended up with her again.
This doesn't work like other universal remotes. You can't pick a device for it to operate. You have to pick an activity like watching TV or watching a movie. If you are watching TV and decide to turn on the DVD player, you have to hit off and it turns off all equipment and then you have to hit watch movie and it turns on the TV, DVD, and receiver. There is a minimal chose of buttons so don't expect to be able to programs all the remote button you need into it. Tech support told me I would have to use my other remotes for some functions.
So now I have a partially functional universal remote on top off the other 5 remotes. This was a waste of money.
Update: After 2 defective remotes, customer service told me that all the harmony 620 remotes were sold to a 3rd party company since they are defective remotes. I am trying to get a refund from logitech.

Professional Universal remote
After struggling with the idea of spending >$50 on a universal remote, I finally took the plunge and purchased the Harmony 620. I couldn't be more pleased. I'm a technology buff, but I don't care for poorly designed user interfaces. This device does not disappoint. It took me about 10 rounds of tweaks with the setup program and the remote to get the buttons exactly as I desired, but it is flexible and was able to handle all of the tasks. Logitech's computer application to program the remote is fairly well designed, their database is huge (it handled my Mvix Ultrio media PC without issue - a very new and somewhat custom device), and once programmed - the remote performs wonderfully.
Ergonomically it is similar to my TiVo peanut remote feel, which is a big plus. Some of the buttons click (I could do without this personally), but it is a fairly solid feel. I have successfully removed 4 remotes from the clutter of the A/V setup and have never worried about having to go back to them even for odd configuration needs of my devices - a true testament to the ability of this remote taking control of all of the aspects I need.

On-line programming is the way to go.
I just picked this up at a BM store. This is my first experience with an on-line programmed remote. I have a TV, AV receiver, Fios DVR box, and DVD player. My DVD player is a really cheap obscure brand. It wouldn't have surprised me if the remote couldn't do it, but it did.

My first attempt produced 98% functionality. I had to do some tweaking to add a DVR button which my Fios remote has and I use. I made this one of the soft (on screen) buttons. I also had to add an additional command to kick my receiver out of "pure audio" mode when switching to watch movie mode as my Onkyo deactivates video upscale in pure audio. Aside from accidentally unplugging my DVD player while checking its model number I had no difficulties.

On-line programming is great and worth the money. I'm tired of those $10 universal remotes that make you go through codes. The 620 controls 12 devices which is more than I'll ever need. The 610 seen at some retailers only controls 5 devices and the buttons are a little cheaper being silicon dimples. The 620 and 670 have hard buttons. Buy this and you won't be sorry.

Does some things well, others... not yet
I got this remote for Christmas, and it works well. I love that it sets up each component where I need it to be (Chooses inputs, turns on my surround receiver, etc), but it advertises that it can also run my ceiling fan, which it does not, so far. I just emailed Logitech support about it, hopefully it will resolve it. Overall I'm impressed and happy with it.
