Product Description
Sony DAV-FX900W DVD Dream System

2009hdtv.com Product Description
The Sony DAV-FX900W DVD Dream System is a home-theater system with integrated 5 DVD/CD changer, incorporating the latest audio and video technologies, including wireless rear speakers, a five-disc DVD changer, and XM-ready satellite radio connectivity. A 5.1-speaker system, with an automatic speaker setup program and a microphone to assist with proper speaker placement and optimizing sound quality, along with an HDMI output, means that you can quickly convert your living room into a full-fledged digital and high-definition theater in no time.

To go along with its sophisticated, contemporary design, the Sony DAV-FX900W includes an HDMI interface to ensure compatibility with the latest in HD digital television. The system's HDMI output, with 720P/1080i upscaling of DVD Media, reads the data on a standard DVD at 480P and maximizes the video resolution to best fit your HDMI compatible TV. This allows for you to enjoy the best in video performance while delivering digital video and audio over one simple cable.

When it's time to calibrate the system to your room, Sony couldn't have made it easier. The DAV-FX900W features Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, which lets you simply place the included microphone in your listening position while Sony's Digital Signal Processing takes over. Speaker placement, distance, and delays are all adjusted automatically to ensure a worry free listening experience. It couldn't be any easier than this. And with the system's Multi-Speaker Formation Select feature, you can use the on-screen display to configure the system for different speaker layouts. And best of all, with DIAT wireless rear speakers (with a wired option if you prefer), the DAV-FX900W relies on infrared audio transmission technology to eliminate the need for wires running from the front of the room to the rear.

The receiver features Digital Cinema Sound Technology, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding, dts Decoding and Digital Cinema Sound technology for optimum sound quality. You'll experience a full 1000 watts of power from the receiver (143 watts x 5 speakers plus 285 watts for the subwoofer). The receiver also includes one S-video input, two analog audio inputs, a coaxial audio digital input, one rear component video input, one component video output, two composite video inputs and one composite video output, as well as an HDMI output.

The 5-disc, carousel-style DVD player offers CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 audio playback, as well as DVD/DVD-RW and JPEG video compatibility. The player also features both Precision Cinema Progressive Technology and Progressive Scan ability. With XM Connect-and-Play, the DAV-FX900W is ready to start streaming hundreds of XM satellite radio programs directly to your home. All you need is the optional Connect-and-Play antenna and an XM Radio subscription (both sold separately), and the world of digital radio will be at your fingertips.

What's in the Box
Receiver, 5-disc CD/DVD player, subwoofer, five speakers, and cables.

A great Surround Sound for an inexpensive price
I purchased this surround sound which happened to be the floor model over 2 years ago at a CompUSA that was closing. I usually stay away from electronic items that have spent time being displayed because of the wear and tear that they get; however, I couldn't pass up the deal. This was exactly what I needed, inexpensive and plays Dvds and everything i needed was in one box; I didn't have to go around purchasing individual items (speakers, subwoofer, reciever, etc). And the best part is that the rear speakers are wireless so I don't have to run wires all over the place!!! Granted for being a floor model our system didn't come with a remote or a mic; however, we purchased a mic that was compatible and it was easy finding a universal remote that worked well with the fuctions of the surround sound.

The Highlights:

Plays Dvds, Cds, and MP3 cds
XM radio ready
HDMI Cable input
AM/FM tuner
package includes 5 speakers, wires, wireless sensor, reciever/dvd 5-disc player, and subwoofer.
Easy to set up & use
Wireless rear speakers
The wire terminals have color coded adapters, making it easy to identify and plug into the back of the dvd player

The Drawbacks:

The subwoofer wattage isn't high but it's perfect for apartment living (I don't have to worry about bothering the
neighbors; although I have gotten a couple of complaints for my surround sound being too loud)
Limited amount of plugs (it would be nice to have multiple audio input jacks for the computer, ps3, etc)
The Dvd slot can be a little tempermental at times when inserting a disc; however, it's easily over come by
pressing the eject button prior to insertion

I'm not a stereo guru by no means; however, I am impressed with my family and I do enjoy watching an assortment of movies and playing video games and the sound quality is really good.

Another example of SONY at war with its customers
If you order a DVD from Europe and want to play it on this SONY unit, you will find that you have wasted your money. SONY is in bed with the distributors and blocks your playing the DVD. This s not a legal block; it's just SONY in collusion with the film folks to diminish the value of your film collection. So be aware.

This is the same as SONY's decision to no longer support Cablecards in its TVs. This is so the cable companies can overcharge you for the scramble box which gives them much of their profit. The government mandated cablecards for the cable companies so the cable companies do support them but then the cable companies got collusive manufacturers like SONY to help the cable companies defeat what they couldn't defeat themselves.

You will be better to work with a more customer friendly company. SONY is not a good choice.

Worth every penny on the price I have paid
I have got this product for 440 + free shipping from 2009hdtv for last thanksgiving. It's still rocking. I would strongly recommend this. Some thing to be considered before you buy:
1)It's just 1080i
2)The receiver+DVD player is heavy
3) Setting up is not too easy
4) Hard to find volume control for sub woofer
5) Disc loading is very confusing until you find the correct rhythm

Dream System, Installation nightmare! But great sound!
I've read many of the reviews here and only have to add the following:

1. My wife and I are retards as it took us over 3 hours to build this thing out!!! Sony could have designed the construction intelligently but chose to use sub-standard scews which, well, basically screw you over. Very easy to de-thread the screws and we almost ruined one of the stands as they didn't screw in or out easily...

2. Speaker wires are cheap but at least color coded on one end for ease of set-up.

3. All small pieces, like screws and washers, don't come in one simple bag. Had to look for the second set which had falled out during unpacking (remember,m we're obviously retards!!!) :)

4. Building the speakers is almost moronic, specially the back surround sound ones. Again, design could have been way better...

5. Instructions are poor and not in great order.

On the plus side:

IT SOUNDS GREAT!!! Short of an issue we have with one of the rear speakers (I suspect a wire isn't in all the way, which requires us to open it up again), it all worked well... Very powerful system with geat sound quality.

Actually, we've had many systems and I've built many computers. We're not really morons, just a little challenged when there are many small parts that don't fit all that well...

If you like building things, this should be good for you!

Next time, I'll have someone build it for us and save three hours of valuable time.
