JVC VHS/DVD player for playing your favorite classics |
The JVC VHS/DVD player is still a necessity- we still do have VHS and can get them cheaply- quality is less reliable than a DVD but great for those who have an old collection in their homes. The player runs smoothly, has well-made components, and delivers at optimum. I like to record things on VHS tapes TV as DVD player usually do not have recording capacity. I had been hunting for a great price, and at $70, this was it- great quality, great price, and great reliability. I have owned JVC electronic items and they are built to last. I am hoping that this will be the last VHS player that I will own. I am pretty sure even when VHS goes entirely out, I will be using the DVD component.
THe only things is that the unit is bulky so you need more shelf space, but then, VHS tapes are big and bulky so there is not much choice there. Overall, I think this is the best buy. |

SOMETIMES IT WORKS . . . SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T |
SOMETIMES IT RECORDS THE TV SHOW YOU PROGRAMMED IT TO . . . . SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T
The Timer is Unreliable.
Your weekly list of programs to record needs constant updating and confirming,
making that feature worthless and unreliable. After all, the point of having a list of
weekly or daily recordings is so it will record those, right?
Do you want to spend all that money on a machine that SOMETIMES works ?
I bought this unit when my VCR broke and I don't have Tivo.
I got it all set up and learned quickly how to use it.
It worked on each individual manual recording I programmed.
Until I programmed it to record a program and later found the DVD
to be static (no picture) on it. I'm positive I set up everything correctly
and the timer was ON.
Then (like my old VCR) I set it up to record seven events the same time each week,
so that you don't have to manually re-do it every week. The tape is in, the timer is on.
All set. Now I can go out. Come home late that night, check the machine . . .
IT NEVER RECORDED THE PROGRAM. I
Finally, tonight was the last straw. I sat there with the TV and VCR both on,
programmed it to record 2 hours on NBC. Everything was correct, the clock,
timer on, date, tape in, everything . . . It was a very important show . . .
Turned the unit off so the timer was ON. I can see channel 4 coming
through the VCR into the TV, so I know it's set to the correct channel.
Instead of recording the channel, the unit switched to a non-channel "F 1"
whatever that is (?) and recorded 2 HOURS OF BLACK SIGNAL. NO TV SHOW.
I don't even know what channel F1 is, it's NOT a TV channel. Perhaps it's an
auxiliary input?? Something must have happened when the timer went off,
the machine flipped out and changed the channel to something else,
then recorded 2 hours of whatever it switched to - NOT a TV channel.
So, just short of me taking this machine up-top a 20-floor building
throwing it off & smashing into a thousand pieces, then put the pieces
in a box & send it back to JVC (which I probably won't do)
I thought I would warn everybody out there not to waste your money on this machine.
Boy, since the digital switchover, there doesn't seem to be one good reliable
home recorder with a dependable timer function to record TV shows,
like the old VCR days. |

Don't buy this machine |
|
I've played lots of tapes (that I recorded from other VCRs) and after about 10-15 minutes the sound starts fading out and then comes back. It does this repeatedly making the tapes hard to watch. The tech at the store I bought it from tells me that there is nothing wrong with the set and they refuse to do anything, but meanwhile it keeps giving me problems. They blame it on the tapes and the sets I recorded them from, but I don't believe them. I tape on two different VCRs in other rooms, and I watch the tapes on two other VCRs (all my five VCRs are new) and this is the only VCR that gives me trouble. Buy some other machine, not this. |

Wrong item ordered |
Unit returned to Electronic Express on June 19.
Nothing was wrong with the unit. It worked perfectly when I installed it. However, I failed to realize that this was a non-tuner unit. Upon receipt of credit, I will be placing a replacement order through 2009hdtv for a unit that has a built in tuner. |

jvc dvd-vcr |
|
This is a very easy to use vcr-dvd. The remote control is lightweight and quite compact, though not too tough to manage the buttons. I can now use it "in the dark". It is easy to record using the 3 plugs directly fron the cable box. The only limitation is lack of search ability in vcr mode. |
