Tivo Premiere is now well polished
The menus are snappy and crisp. Lags have been corrected with caching and optimization. The show records promptly and are extremely clear even over the air. The tuner reception on board is actually better than my built in TVs tuner. I still wish it comes with a clock on the front of the unit and a better glo/bluetooth remote however. Overall, extremely satisfied.
Love TiVo
The new TiVo Premiere is great. Easier to find and record programs. I've had the box for a month now, and I stil haven't gotten to all the features jam packed into this box. So far, so good.
Extended Warrenty is a SCAM
Don't purchase the extended warranty or a tivo product. I purchased a 3 year extended warranty and my tivo broke after 8 months. We put up with the initial Tivo even though it would not record voice on both turners at the same time like advertised, but when the network card went out, we thought we would get it serviced. The network card went bad, so they sent me another unit, which had a hard drive failure within one day. I got a second exchange and was told my extended warranty would not cover the replacement unit and is void after the 1st exchange.
Brandon the customer service person was no help at all. I will never buy anything with a tivo logo again.
what a fiasco , if it works at all.
My series 2 box died, so I got the new premier box and had the cable company come to put in the card...What a fiasco, it took him 2 hours plus. HE NEVER got it working. Seems you need to hook it to the modem , which happens to be in the opposite side of my house in the office. Or buy a wireless system from tivo. Cable and Tivo techs both said "couldn't you put the computer nearer to the TV?? ....What are they thinking....I wanted to lose the cable box not rearrange my home..... The cable company guy in my area has only installed a card into a tivo , once or twice . (or so he said) When he left he took my old cable box , so I had NO TV at all, and no way to get it. . Seems to use the box without a modem connection, you could use a phone line , but TIVO removed the phone jack from the back of the Premier boxes , so you need an adapter that does not come with the new Premier TIVO . If you use the phone line then the new features the Premier offers are not available ...so the premier is like the series 2 at that point... but I want TV so, I had to buy a USB to telephone adapter from TIVO (29.+ shipping, and days of waiting ) , cause NO ONE in the computer places near me ever heard of the part. Even BestBuy.... Although TIVO says "oh any computer store near you will have that item" THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT> And NOW that I got the part, I can't set it up because I unhooked the premier to put an old cable box on it , so I would just have TV again while I waited for the adapter to arrive. So, I have to call the cable company again. It means another charge for the guy to come out.... (again) THEY have to install the cable card ..... They don't let you bring it home and do it. (more $) OH and I needed to add a smaller 'translation box' from the cable company to use the Premier. ( it is a modem sized box, but is NOT a modem) I seems it allows tivo to recieve some of the cable channels you can't get without it.. Why did I get the premier anyway? to get rid of the cable box. I now have to have another box anyway.... ad 2 service calls extra parts extra box...... my opinion is to wait unless your computer is right near the TV or your house is easily wired with extra wires from room to room or until they come up with a better box.. I am sending the premier back and buying another series 2 from amazon for 49.99. I love my TIVO but the premier is just to expensive to install if it gets installed at all.... I usually have no problem installing Television, Tivo, VHS or DVD players and hooking them up..this Premier has me stumped. And i don't want to spend a day to figure it out. If the cable guy cannot do it..... and Tivo says I cannot use it without the adapter. or modem connection.... and the liittle translator box... I give up.
